Recently Inland Hills Church Lead Pastor Andrew Stoecklein heartbreakingly committed suicide. In the aftermath of his death, the church and family shared three simple words that had meant so much to them for many years, “God’s got this.”
This simple thought reminds me of two key Bible verses that will help you throughout your day and this new week.
God has a plan.
Jeremiah sent Israel this message from God:
11 “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
This verse is in the middle of a message that God gives to Israel while they are in captivity. He is describing their future. He simply tells them that He has their future in His hands. Their current difficulty is part of His plan, but so is their rescue. As a means of giving Israel hope, God reminded them that He has a plan.
God is working all things for your good and His glory.
Paul gives these most important words to us.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. (Romans 8:28-29)
Here we read two important ideas. 1) Every detail in your life is part of God’s plan. All things. Those things in God’s plan work together as instruments in a symphony to create something beautiful. He then tells us what is beautiful or good according to His purpose. 2) He is using these things to help you become like Christ. God’s goal in every one of our circumstances – the good He brings – is to help us become more like Christ through them.
Things do not always happen as we want or plan. In those moments, it is important to remember, God’s got this.
This is God’s goal for you today and should be your goal today as well – in all your circumstances to be more like Christ.
