Decisions loom at the precipice of a new week with many options and opportunities available to each of us. What do we choose to do throughout our day, throughout our week? What do we serve and how do we serve? How do we manage the responsibilities, opportunities, and possibilities? These questions dominate the week ahead.

One of the many decisions you will make this week, either knowingly or unknowingly, is, “Will you be wise?” Will you be like the wise man who built his house upon the rock or the foolish man who built his house upon the sand?

Where will you build your house?

Jesus closed his most famous sermon with the following story:

24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24-27)

Wisdom, Building, Houses, and Rain

Why is this important? Jesus teaches there are two choices and two outcomes. You are either wise or foolish. What’s the difference? Jesus says the wise person is the one who hears what He has to say and chooses to do it. The foolish man, on the other hand, hears what Jesus has to say and chooses not to do it. The wise man receives the benefits of wisdom; whereas the foolish man suffers the consequences of his folly.

So as you face a new week, choose wisdom. To choose wisdom, choose obedience.

How? Remember what Jesus said and choose to do it.
