This week marks the anniversary of the landmark US Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade which legalized abortion nationwide in 1973. Since then millions of babies have been murdered as a “women’s rights” issue. As a father of five children, one of which died as an very young infant almost twenty years ago, the massacre of the unborn remains unfathomable to me. How does a society allow all those children to be murdered? Maybe you haven’t noticed, but this same society protects dogs from abuse, provides for the elderly, and even protects the environment.
In the U.S., thirty-eight states currently recognize unborn child homicide laws (twenty-three of which cover any stage of development). If someone kills your unborn child, that person faces homicide charges. But if you want to kill your unborn child, no problem. Why? Because it is your right as a woman to kill your child or children. However, if you wait until after the birth of the child (a 7 1/2 inch path from the womb to the vagina opening), then 100% of the states consider it a murder. That is of course unless you are a doctor performing an abortion and it gets botched. Then, you can kill the baby without a problem in some places.
Friends, think about this. A baby that can live with help by our incredible neonatal intensive care units all over this country can be killed just as long as you don’t let the mom go into active labor first.
Who are we kidding? We all know this is murder. We may try to appease our consciences as a nation or an individual by cloaking it in women’s rights rhetoric or arguing over when a baby becomes a baby, but friends, that is just talk. At the end of the day, these are babies. This is life. Abortion is death. Abortion is murder.
The State of New York Shames Us All
The scene this week of the New York Senate chambers erupting in applause over the passage of a new pro-abortion bill called the Reproductive Health Act repulses me. God have mercy on us all. Click on this clip and listen for yourself to fellow humans cheering the passage of a bill that allows other people to murder their children. Friends, this is chilling. We better remember, God heard the cheering too.

There are a number of good articles that describe this bill and its effects. You can check those out here and here.
The One World Trade Center lit up in pink to celebrate this accomplishment — in the state of New York you can kill your unborn child until birth.
Thank you Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) for directing the spire be lit pink overnight on Tuesday, January 23, 2019 in celebration.
This law does three things that shame the people of New York.
First, it allows for abortion until birth.
Second, it abolished the recognition of preborn children in New York as potential homicide victims.
Third, it allows even non-doctors to perform the abortion.
Kudos to New York. Cuomo called the bill an “historic victory for New Yorkers and our progressive values… In the face of a federal government intent on rolling back Roe v. Wade and women’s reproductive rights, I promised that we would enact this critical legislation within the first 30 days of the new session – and we got it done.”
One tweet said, “Now it looks just like the needle that is used to supply the lethal injection to the living unborn child.” Heaven help us.
Various Responses to New York’s New Law
I can’t help but think Matt Walsh correctly challenges the moral nature of this law when he remarks capital punishment is illegal in New York by lethal injection but it is okay to give your living baby in your womb a lethal injection. Not because your baby has murdered, maimed, or abused any person. In fact your baby is helplessly innocent in your womb just growing and doing what babies who are made in the image of God do. They get a lethal injection because they are alive. They are unwanted. They may be unhealthy. They may be a distraction. They may change your vocational path. They were a mistake. Those or any number of other reasons are why they get the lethal injection.
I disagree with Walsh’s comment about being a psychopath.
I believe that John Piper wrote an incredible response to abortion in his article “We Know They Are Killing Children – All of Us Know.” He provides 11 evidences why we know we are killing children, and then adds some additional biblical reasons.
To Be Honest…
I wish there were a way to help women out who did not want a pregnancy or in the cases of extreme health concerns beside abortion. All abortions are extremely sad. However, as those made in the image of God, we must protect the lives of those also made in the image of God, those who yet have no voice of their own.
A better solution for sure would be the government to fund adoptions rather than abortion. There are millions of people who would be willing to adopt but often allow the price tag associated with it to back them away from it. Are there many problems also associated with this method? I’m sure there are. However, we must defend life. God is the giver of life. Who are we to think that we can legalize then celebrate extinguishing it because of progressive values and women’s reproductive rights?
The Bible is our final authority. Regarding the baby in the womb, it reads, “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb” (Psalms 139:13). God superintendents these little ones in His image as they grow. It continues, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well” (Psalms 139:14).
Regarding the killing of these little babies and the cheering in the New York state house, the Bible also describes people like them as it discusses wisdom. “… those who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice in doing evil, and delight in the perversity of the wicked” (Proverbs 2:13-14).
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)
