Confidence (1-Minute Mondays)

Have you ever laid down at night with your mind full of guilt because you let an opportunity pass by to help another person or because you wish you could have done more to help someone with compassion? It is easy to generally help others throughout your day, have a concern for them, and a real desire to help, but still feel guilty that you couldn’t do more.

The Bible helps us both with our sense of guilt and to have confidence before God.

God is greater than our heart.

The Apostle John stresses the importance of love:

18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. 20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. 22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. (1 John 3:18-23)

We are to demonstrate our love to others. When we do, we are encouraged because that love comes from God. But when we feel guilty for not doing enough, God is greater than our hearts. Let me explain that.

God provides us confidence.

God knows your desire to help others and knows you. When you feel guilty because you didn’t do enough or missed an opportunity, be encouraged. God knows you. You can have confidence before God because you remind your heart that you are known by Him. Therefore, you can pray with confidence while you continue to love God and seek to demonstrate your love toward others.
