The Most Important Question (1-Minute Mondays)

If I were to ask you the most important question you could ask today, no doubt I would receive many different questions. Your question would represent whatever it is that is most passionate to your heart. It could be about relationships, self-perception, or vocation. More than likely most of the questions would be personal in nature.

On the day that Jesus entered Jerusalem, the beginning of what we now call Passion week, the crowd asked the most important question in the Gospel of Matthew.

“Who is this?”

Matthew describes what is taking place. He writes,

6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. 8 And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:

“Hosanna to the Son of David!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Hosanna in the highest!”

10 And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”

11 So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.” (Matthew 21:6-11)

Matthew shares the most important question in His book. “Who is this?”

The response, “This is Jesus…” The Galileans explained He was the prophet from Nazareth. They did not yet understand the significance of who Jesus really was at this point. They explained Him as a prophet; we understand He was the Savior.

Asking the Same Question Today

Who is this? Jesus.
Jesus is the only one qualified to take away your sins. He can because He was the God-man (Phil 2:5-8).
Jesus is the only one qualified to be worshiped. He can because He was the God-man (Phil 2:9-11).
Jesus is the only one worth living for today because of His incredible love He demonstrated (2 Cor 5:14-15).
Who is this? Jesus
