Whenever someone says to me, “This is the key to a joy-filled life” or something of the sort, I have a tendency to listen. I want to know what brings joy. The world around each one of us often kills joy. Many days the daily news seems dark, it primarily highlights the worst in people, and tends to leave a bad taste in one’s mouth after perusing it.
Not today! Let me share with you the key to an abundant life. Today, I am the one saying it and invite you to consider how to abundantly live as you begin your day and week.
Abundant Life in Christ
Actually, I am not the one who said how to live an abundant life. I am simply passing on the good news to you today. Jesus is the one who promised it. He said:
7 Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:7-10)
Jesus says that He is the door of the sheepfold. Let me briefly highlight key statements that can help change your week.
Keys for Abundant Living
- Watch out for counterfeits. Many will suggest that true abundant living is different than what Jesus says.
- Abundant life is in Jesus. Jesus says He is the only way to salvation and abundant living. He says one must enter by Him as the door and will enjoy the pasture.
- Jesus offers you life. He describes it as abundant life. This life is yours as you pursue a relationship with Him.
Today and this week, focus in on Jesus as the source of life and try not to chase after all the other good things that distract but only offer counterfeit joy. Choose the abundant life!
