As you face another day and week, are you fearful? Do you feel lonely? Facing opportunities, pressures, and potential obstacles?
Check out this incredible word of help from the psalmist to anchor your hope, encourage your soul, and provide you a great foundation from which to challenge your day.
Look Upward for Confidence
Our psalmist places his confidence for his day not in himself but in his God. Check this out:
1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.” (Psalm 91:1-2)
He calls God his refuge and fortress. In the shadow of God, he finds his confidence. Similar to a young child who is invincible when next to his father, the psalmist is confident in the presence of (or shadow) of his God.
Notice His Description of His God
No wonder he is confident, look how he sees and understands God.
- God, the Most High: a designation that says God is higher than any other power, principality, god, anything. He is the Most High!
- God, the Almighty: a recognition of the awesome power of God. He can do anything. Nothing is past His ability. He is the Almighty!
- God, the LORD: an awareness of God’s relational faithfulness to those who follow Him. He never breaks a covenant. He is Covenant Faithful!
- God, my God: a response of one who is loved by this most incredible God Who is near. This just isn’t any god. He is My God!
What Is the Result?
The psalmist makes it clear…God is worthy of trust! He is the highest, strongest, and most faithful! And to top it all off, He is personal.
In His presence, he has confidence. Today, as you face your day, you can as well.
Go in God’s shadow! Enjoy your God even as you tackle your day.
