Have you ever had a dream you went somewhere and realized you were only in your underwear or worst?
What about this scenario… It is time to go and you are waiting on someone because they are not up, dressed and ready?
Possibly you have been the one who is not up, dressed and ready. Has that happened to you?
This is a REAL concern spiritually as well.
Get Up and Get Ready
The Apostle Paul is concerned for us as well. He writes:
11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (Romans 13:11-14)
Notice how emphatically he draws our attention. Do this! Or, you could say, “Pay attention! Get up! Come on!” He wants us moving in the right direction.
He uses a battle scene and implies that dawn is breaking. The battle commences as soon as light arrives. Therefore, we cannot afford to lay asleep or slumber for one more instance. We must get up and get going.
Put on the Lord Jesus Christ
As you prepare to face this new week, be ready as you walk out the door. Get dressed.
Put on Jesus Christ. That means to think about Christ, take time to meditate on His characteristics, and then turn your attention toward yourself. Consider what characteristic of Christ that you need to put on today in order to face the challenges of your new day or week.
But do not stop there. Part of getting ready is also not making any provision for the flesh. Also think defensively. Reaffirm this morning that you are aggressively protecting yourself spiritually as well. Intentionally plan to protect yourself from the lusts of the flesh.
Get up, get ready, get dressed, and put on Christ.
