Men and women from every walk of life do their part to protect us, keep us safe, and serve their community. Many times these individuals wear a uniform, have a badge, go through hours of special training, and keep a rigorous schedule. They go about their day serving us even though most days we do not consider all their work, their sacrifice, and their danger. These first responders provide many blessings to all the rest of us in our community. These men and women are our local heroes.
7 Ways to Say Thank You to Our Local Heroes ~ The First Responders in Our Community
There are many thoughtful and creative ways to say “Thank You” to the first responders in and around our community. Here are some ideas below. If you don’t like see one you like, then be creative and come up with your own. This list can at least get you started.
Who can say “Thank You” to our local heroes?
- You can
- Get the members of your family together
- Ask people in your neighborhood to help
- Talk to friends in your church
- Suggest a project to your child’s class at school or the PTA
- Consider your child’s sports team or coach
- Anybody and everybody!
What can you do?
- Thank You Notes
A simple hand-written note that can be pinned to a bulletin board is always nice. - Children’s Drawings or Coloring Pages
Coloring pages and art projects can easily be pinned to a bulletin board, hung up in a training room or kitchen area, or placed in a lobby. You can get free coloring pages for firefighters, police, and paramedics here. - Drop Off Snacks, Bottled Water, Gatorade, or Baked Items
Put together a great list of your favorite snacks as a group and go buy those. It is best to have individually packaged items. Put them in a basket or bucket for the break room. If you choose baked items, call ahead and ask what they would prefer or if they accept baked goods. - Pay It Forward in the Drive-Thru or the line
Pay for the first responder who is in line behind you either in the drive-thru or the convenience store. - Gift Cards or Free Coupons
Purchase gift cards for meals at local restaurants so that the ones on shift can get a free meal. Depending upon the kind of station house, usually there are only a handful of people on a shift at one time. This is more affordable than you might think. You can always collect coupons for free sandwiches and other items as well. Drop those off so that they can be used at convenient times. - Send a Practical Gift Basket
You can collect hand sanitizer, chapstick, tissues, gum, mints, certs, candy, snack bars, beef jerky, life-savers, pens, paper, handwarmers, coffee gift cards, and many more creative things you can think of. - Just Say Thanks!
Any of us can do this! Just say, “Thank you” when you see someone in uniform.
