Pay Attention to the Harvest! (#OneMinuteMondays)

The harvest!

The Bible talks often about the harvest. Check out what Jesus says to His disciples as He commissioned them to go before Him as He headed toward Jerusalem the final months of His life on earth.

The Harvest Truly is Great

As Jesus commissioned the seventy disciples He said:

Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. (Luke 10:2-3)

In His compassion, He commanded His followers to “Go” because of the importance and significance of the harvest.

As you begin this Monday and week, there are a few key ideas you can’t miss. What Jesus knew and shared, you also need to know.

Catch the Significance of What Jesus Says

The harvest truly is great!

Jesus refers to the fact that the harvest is ready. The field is full. Think how important that is. Whenever the harvest is ready, the timer begins. Once ready, there is only so much time before it begins to ruin and you can lose it. This is critical. When the harvest is ready, it demands attention.

Do you feel the heaviness of it? Once ready, the farmer cannot rest until the harvest is in. The farmer puts everything he or she has into getting the harvest in while there is still time.

Further when Jesus says it is great, He refers to the fact that it is valuable. Everything culminates in this moment. The heads are heavy; the value is never greater than this moment.

The laborers are few!

The fields and harvest stand ready. The time is now. It is imperative that someone gets out in the field. The significance of this moment weighs heavy in time. With every clock click, the harvest waits and moves ever so close to losing it.

The problem according to Jesus: the laborers are few! Even in light of the value, not many are moving out into the fields. Yet, the command here is to “Go!”

Expect Great Results

What should you do then?

Obey and go into the field to get the harvest. Be bold, courageous, and daring.

Then, expect results.

Sometimes this is where we fail. We assume that even when we get out into the field and “share” the Gospel, we will have little to no results. However, do not miss what Jesus says. The harvest is truly great! It is ready!

When the harvest is ready, what do you do? You go out and get it. You expect results. Will you miss some? Will you get all the harvest? No. But you’ll get most of what is ready.

So Don’t Delay ~ Go and Get the Harvest

As your day begins and your new week, you live in the field, the harvest is all around you, and your responsibility is to go. May God bless your efforts this week.
