Decisions to Make? (#OneMinuteMondays)

Decisions. Decisions.

Every new day and work week arrives with plenty of decisions to make. Your goal is to of course make those in a way that helps you and not hurts you. I smile as I write that because sometimes we do not know what is best; we just simply make the best decision we can with the data that we have.

As followers of Christ, we rejoice in the fact that we can trust God. On our best day or worst day, God superintends life on the planet around us – including our own – helping us become more like Christ as we meagerly strive to do what is right in daily circumstances. We further rejoice in verses like Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” These verses help anchor us as we go about living day to day seeking to be wise and make wise decisions.

4 Questions You Can Ask Before Any Decision

I am summarizing many different verses and Bible principles to give you basically four questions you can ask yourself this week as you seek to make wise decisions for the glory of God.

1. What is my motive in making this decision?
2. Is it a sin? (Is any part of this decision prohibited in the Bible?)

3. Is it wise? (What biblical principles suggest this is wise or even commanded in the Bible?)
4. What do I want to do? (What are your desires? Circumstantially what seems best? Have you gotten any advice from godly friends? Are you praying? Et.al.)

If you ask these four questions in this order, your decisions will consistently honor the Lord.

God gives you amazing freedom as you make decisions. He specifically commands certain things and forbids others, while asking you to check your motives. As asked above…if you have a godly motive and the Bible does not forbid a particular thing, then you get past the sin level. At that point, you have freedom to choose what is best. What is best? — Questions 3 & 4

Now let’s begin our week asking the right questions seeking to honor the Lord in everything.
