As you get up and around today, have you considered what God was doing while you were sleeping?

Hopefully you slept well. The Bible describes God as the One who provides you rest. To the one who finds wisdom in the Lord, the Bible explains:

When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. (Prov 3:24)

Just think about it, as we laid down to sleep last night, God stayed up. While you rested, God was busy.

While You Were Sleeping…God kept you safe and secure

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)

While we slept, God provided us safety. The darkness is as light to Him. God peers through the night as if it is noon.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,”
Even the night shall be light about me;
Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You. (Psalm 139:11-12)

While You Were Sleeping…God stayed up and did not sleep

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep. (Psalm 121:1-4)

While we slept, God stayed awake. He neither slept nor slumbered. Every minute of the night, He was awake and aware of us.

What a joy to go to sleep and realize that we can sleep soundly because You choose to stay awake.

While You Were Sleeping…God was watching over you

I lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. (Psalm 3:5)

While we slept, God watched over us. He sustained us throughout the night. As the psalmist reminded us, we appreciate and have confidence in Your continual protection.

While You Were Sleeping…God was with you

The Lord is indeed going before you—he will be with you; he will not fail you or abandon you. Do not be afraid or discouraged! (Deut 31:8)

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Josh 1:9)

While we slept, God never left us for one moment. God’s presence was with us. In every moment, wherever we were, whatever was going on around us — God was there with us.

 

While You Were Sleeping…God provided for you

While you were sleeping, God took care of you in every way. Friends, this is great news. As you prepare to go to church and do the activities of your day, I encourage you to just say a quick prayer right now to God and thank Him for all that He has done. Rejoice in God’s protection, presence, and provision. Thank Him for all that He does. Rejoice in God’s kindness to us even while we were sleeping.
