Victory Through Your Trial (#OneMinuteMondays)

In the storms of life, Jesus tells us how to have victory through our trial.

Two things are true: 1) In life, you will face many trials and go through many storms; however, 2) Jesus provides you a way through them.

What fascinates me is that I had never noticed this simple patch through storms before my most recent study in Jesus’ Sermon on the Plain (Luke 6:43-49).

Victory Through Your Trial

In Jesus’ first teaching after picking the twelve Apostles, He explained to them how to have victory through trials. Notice how he does:

46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.” (Luke 6:43-49)

He describes two people who follow Him. The first calls Jesus ‘Lord, Lord’ but does not obey Him. The second follows Jesus by doing three things: ‘comes to Me, hears My sayings, and does them.’ The second person is the one whose house does not shake or fall in the midst of a vehement storm since this person’s house is built on a firm foundation.

What is the foundation? 1) Coming, 2) Hearing, and 3) Doing

Coming… Hearing… Doing

These are the three initial steps to victory through your trial.

  1. Coming – You come to Jesus either through reading the Word, listening to a sermon, or participating in some kind of Bible intake for understanding.
  2. Hearing – You hear when you value what is heard when you come. You do something to internalize what is said or learned. You hold it tightly. Memorization. Meditation.
  3. Doing – You apply what you have heard and valued to daily living. In this step you use the wisdom God provides to take what you have heard and live it consistently.

Friends, do you want to have victory in your trial this week – victory through the storm?

Then, you must start with the right foundation. This week Come to Jesus through the Word … Value what He teaches … and Apply what you hear!
