What do you want the most? For what are you passionate? What is it that you crave, desire, want, long for, yearn for, or hunger after the most? What would others say about your passion?
An interesting metaphor used in the Bible to describe passion is a newborn baby craving milk. The baby instinctively, eagerly, and incessantly desires his or her mother’s milk.[1] When hungry only one thing satisfies the baby, which is, getting milk.
The question to consider at the beginning of your week is this: what do you want, crave or desire in a similar way? What should you want, crave or desire that way?
DESIRE SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT
Peter points identifies that which we should want similar to a baby:
2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, (1 Peter 2:2).
Similar to the newborn baby instinctively craving milk, Peter commands every Christian to desire the pure milk of the word.
BE CLEAR AS TO WHAT YOU ARE TO DESIRE AND WHY!
This metaphor does not emphasize new Christians as babies, nor does it emphasize the elemental truths in the Bible as milk (although other passages do, i.e., 1 Cor 3:1; Heb 5:12). His point is to desire spiritual nourishment. This nourishment is to learn, love, and live Jesus Christ.
Why? In order for you to grow in salvation. Knowing Christ greater is the key to spiritual nourishment. This instinctual desire that should drive the Christian’s passion results in the growth God intends.
The Bible is where we learn about Christ and experience Him in its pages; however, the greatest passion for the Christ-follower isn’t merely to know the Bible, but instead, the Christ of the Bible.
In your day today there are many other competing desires. Desires and passions can run wild. So our challenge today is to crave Christ more than anything.
