Do you every worry? Find that it is easy to be a bit anxious? Join the many, many others who have suffered alongside you through this season. Many would say, “Wouldn’t it be nice if it were just over this season?” At the end of the day though, the questions for all of us who are Christ-followers are: Why Worry?! What about anxiety?

Jesus Helps Us Fend Off Anxiety

Jesus told the disciples several key truths related to anxiety. Let me share a couple of the key ones with you. In Luke 12:22-34, Jesus teaches them why as disciples it both is wrong and does not make sense to worry.

  • God tells us that life is more than just the gifts that He gives to us (v. 23). Life consists of much more than what you can eat or wear.
  • God’s care for creation teaches us to not worry (vv. 24, 27-28). Every bird, every flower, and every green field all remind us that God cares for us. If He takes care of these things, how much more will He take care of us!
  • Your level of anxiety will follow the direction of your eyes (vv. 29-30). If you look horizontally at what you can eat, drink, drive, or do, you miss what God does that is far greater. Unbelievers focus on those things. If you look for those things, your anxiety increases. If you look upward toward God and seek after His kingdom, your anxiety decreases as your contentment rises.
  • God cares for us so trust Him (vv. 24, 28, 30, 32). Friend, God cares for you. He knows you. He loves you. God will give you the kingdom.
  • Anxiety is useless! It demonstrates a lack of faith (v. 30). Unbelievers do not know God, therefore they do not trust Him. This should not be for the follower of Christ though. Since we know Him and know His character, we should of all people trust Him. As we trust Him, our anxiety drops.
  • God knows your needs, so seek His kingdom! (vv. 30-32) God knows, friend. Jesus said, “…your Father knows that you need these things.” Jesus continued, “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

Why Worry?! What about anxiety?

If you keep your eyes on God the Father this week, you will soon realize that you do not need to worry. You can trust God. God knows. He cares. He loves you. Therefore, this week, seek to trust God instead of live under the burden of anxiety.
