Sometimes it is very important to remember the simple things. This principle applies to our prayer life as well. In fact, when we remember the simple things while in prayer, God uses those to encourage our faith. While visiting this week with my Uncle, he shared this story…
Your Aunt Alice and I have been getting fish from one of the guys down here. He stops by and tells us that he has some in his basket at the dock. We go over, use the five-gallon bucket that is at the dock, and get those fish. The other day, he told us about it and I went to get them. When I got there, the five-gallon bucket was gone. I couldn’t find it anywhere. I did get the fish but very inconveniently.
As I went to bed that night and laid there praying, I just simply prayed, “God, you know how convenient a five-gallon bucket would be for us to get those fish. Would you please provide us a bucket?”
What happened the next morning was incredible. I woke up, got out of the camper, and walked over to the shore to look at the lake. Within a few feet of the shoreline I could see something floating in the water. I got to looking at it, and you guessed it, it was a five-gallon bucket. I fished it out of the water and stored it under our picnic table at our site. We have been using it ever sense to get our fish out of that basket. God provided us a five-gallon bucket.
Simple prayer request – God, you know our needs. A five-gallon bucket would be nice.
Powerful answer – God answered the prayer and had a five-gallon bucket floating in the water.
Result – Increased faith in the kindness, understanding, and providence of God.
Important! – Remember the Simple Things – Pray About Everything
The Apostle Paul made this very clear to us in Philippians. Notice what he wrote about prayer:
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; (Phil 4:6)
Take your petitions to God in prayer. Just as Uncle Henry did, simply ask God about what you need, trust Him, and He is faithful to provide. Of course, it may not always be a five-gallon bucket floating in the water; however, God is always faithful and kind to His children.

Thank you Pastor – struggling this week and needed that gentle reminder that God cares about the little things. He wants me to bring everything to Him.
It’s a great reminder for all of us. Yes!
