A Veterans Day Prayer
Dear God,
On this Veterans Day, we honor all of those who have served in any capacity in the United States Armed Services, including all those brave men who served in the Merchant Marine. We pause to give honor to whom honor is due. Thank you for their selfless service to us, our families, and fellow citizens. We recognize the valiant effort, countless hours of training, and thankless duty. Many sacrificed birthdays, holidays, and many other significant days with their own families to serve and protect other families not their own. On this day, we ask that You would bless them for their sacrificial service.
For those veterans who ended their service with something more or something less than what they started, we ask that you would grant them special mercy today. Where they carry invisible wounds, we pray that You would help them sense your kindness through the help of others around them today. For those who lost physically in some or any way, we pray that they would experience your comfort today.
Thank you for men and women who were willing. No doubt we enjoy all the privileges and liberties granted to us under the Constitution of the United States because others were willing to help preserve those. For these things, we are grateful.
We understand that all these things and the common grace of their sacrificial service are provided by Your providential kindness to us. For that, we rejoice in You today as well. No greater sacrifice can a man make than to lay down his life for his friends. These veterans were willing. Jesus, our dear Savior, did. Thank you for the visible demonstration of a heavenly reality provided to us by our veterans.
In Jesus Name, Amen
