A Prayer for the Sick
Dear God,
This morning we pray for those all around us and in the world who are sick.
We echo the words of Pastor James for those in his congregation who were sick.
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. (James 5:13-18)
We humbly bow before you and ask, if it is Your will, that you would strengthen and heal those who are struggling and sick. We read these words from Your Word, and we trust You. As Your children, we depend upon Your healing hand. We do ask that You would keep them from getting any sicker, those at home would not need to go to the hospital, and those in the hospital would get better.
For those who are helping those who are sick, we pray that You would keep a hedge of protection around them. As they serve, may it be unto the Lord. We rejoice to see those who love You and love others serve selflessly. Please encourage them in the process.
For those who are both sick and their family, friends, and loved ones, we pray that you would strengthen their hearts. Where any of us are fearful, please help us with courage and trust. Where some are tired, please help them experience Your persevering grace. For those who are discouraged, please help them experience the comfort of Your presence.
We look forward to the future day when all tears will be wiped away, sickness will be gone, and death will turn to eternal life. Thank you that You have defeated death and Satan. We pray today that you would comfort us with Your plan. Thank you that we can trust Your plan.
We rejoice that when Elijah prayed, You answered those prayers according to Your will. This morning we pray with similar faith. We trust Your will and ask that You would answer our prayers as well.
Father, we depend upon Your mercy for today and every day. We confess that we are but dust and can easily struggle; however, we thank You and praise You for Your patience with us as we struggle along even in our faith.
We love You Father and are grateful for Your Son, Jesus Christ, Who made a way for us to get to Heaven.
In Jesus Name, Amen
