Don’t Forget This on Your Thanksgiving Table (#OneMinuteMondays)

Thanksgiving Week is here. What a joy! Historically, this has been one of my most favorite holidays of the year filled with family traditions, gratitude, and time off. As I have been reflecting on several Bible verses throughout the month of November, this one thought came to mind. I wonder how many Thanksgiving Tables will miss this powerful ingredient? In fact, let me strongly encourage you, don’t forget this on your Thanksgiving table.

What’s the ingredient you might be wondering? Gratitude for God’s Mercy

Notice this incredible verse:

Oh give thanks to the Lord for He is good! For His mercy endures forever (1 Chronicles 16:34).

When David said these words, He led the children of Israel in rejoicing because God had returned the Ark of the Covenant into the Tabernacle. The Ark was stolen by the Philistines during Eli’s final days as High Priest over Israel. Although the Philistines had returned the Ark, it had never been secured and brought back into its rightful place in worship. So King David gathered a bunch of men up representing Israel and went to Kirjath Jearim to get the Ark. It did not make it initially all the way to Jerusalem, rather it stayed in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months. However, David eventually goes down with many Levites and invited everyone to Jerusalem to celebrate the Ark of the Covenant’s arrival in Jerusalem at the Tabernacle.

Oh give thanks to the Lord for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

God’s mercy endures forever!

When David praises God’s mercy, he refers to God’s covenant faithfulness. God is always faithful to His Word. For those of us who have a relationship with Him, that means that God never relents or backs away from His promises to us. When He forgives us our sins and we become one of His children, He forever holds fast to His covenant with you through Jesus Christ. He never leaves you. You are redeemed forever. Related to our relationship with God through Jesus Christ which we can never change or lose, Peter writes, “who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5).

Kept by the power of God!

We rejoice in God’s great mercy.
