God Protects Us
Psalm 121 – the Summer Sun Reminds Us
Catch what the people of Israel sang – especially the reference to the sun:
1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore. (Psalm 121)
Did you catch that?
The Lord is our shade. The sun will not hurt you. Also, the moon will not hurt you.
What does this mean, “The sun will not hurt you?”
The reference to the sun and moon refer to those things that happen during the day and those things that happen at night. The text refers to God’s protection over us. God preserves us from evil during the day; God preserves us from evil during the night. God protects us!
Please rejoice for a moment in the incredible meaning in this text. As God did with Israel, God will do for you too.
God preserves your going out and your coming in – your help comes from the Lord!
Praise God for this.
So, the next time you are out and the sun seems bright and hot, remember, God protects us!
