This Could Be the Dawning of that Day / Until Then

This has been a week of heartache around our church and family as a dear friend slipped into eternity. As I have reflected on the week, I have once again longed for the return of Jesus Christ. When Jesus returns, the end is set. Those of us alive will go to be with Him forever. Plus, the end is set. At the dawning of that day, hope will be realized. We will be free from the sorrow and evil of this world to enjoy our God in person forevermore. Thankfully, this could be the day. And, if it is not, we still have hope “that” day is coming soon. What a great joy and uplifting day it will be when we get to experience our wonderful Savior, face to face. As I have reflected on the wonderful day, this medley came to mind. I hope you will enjoy it today, “This Could Be the Dawning of that Day / Until Then.”

This Could Be the Dawning of that Day / Until Then Lyrics

A parade began at Calvary
The saints of all the ages fill its ranks
O’er the sands of time they’re marching
To their King’s great coronation
And this could be the dawning of that day!

This could be the dawning of that grand and glorious day
When the face of Jesus we behold!
Dreams and hopes of all the ages are waiting His returning
And this could be the dawning of that day!

All The Saints are getting restless
They’re not bound by shackles forged of earthly gold
Since that day they knelt at Calvary
They’ve been pilgrims ever wand’ring
Just looking for a place to rest their souls

This could be the dawning of that grand and glorious day
When the face of Jesus we behold!
Dreams and hopes of all the ages are waiting His returning
And this could be the dawning of that day
This could be the dawning of that day!

[Until Then]

Until then, my heart will go on singing
Until then, with joy I’ll carry on

Dreams and hopes of all the ages are waiting His returning
And this could be the dawning of that day!
This could be the dawning of that day!
This could be the dawning of that day!

The Theology

What a wonderful day we have to look forward to when Jesus Christ returns. We anticipate this beautiful promise. Briefly before Jesus died on the cross, He explained to the disciples:

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” (John 14:1-3)

Jesus says, “I will come again and receive you to Myself.” Oh, what a great promise.

As the disciples all stood watching into the sky when Jesus ascended to heaven, the angel said:

“Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)

Jesus will come. Until then, we are called pilgrims, sojourners, and citizens of heaven. As such, we anticipate this future day and return.
