The Preeminent Christ, Both Personal and Trustworthy
In Colossians 1:15–20, Paul lifts our eyes to the greatness of Jesus Christ. He is the Creator of all things, which makes it far easier for us to trust Him as the Sustainer of all things. The One who designed the universe and spoke it into existence is the same One who holds every detail of life together today.
Paul also reminds us that Jesus Christ is our Redeemer. His work on the cross assures us of present and future reconciliation. What Jesus accomplished in the past gives us every reason to trust Him in the present. His creation work and His cross work both anchor our peace. This text helps us look back with both gratitude, plus look forward with hope. As well, we can better face our new day and week with confidence.
Yet these truths are not about a Christ Who is far away and impersonal. Instead, these truths help us remember Jesus intimately enters our world – your world. Creation is for our enjoyment. Sustaining grace allows us to experience that enjoyment. Redemption and reconciliation are intensely personal gifts from a loving Savior. The preeminent Christ is not distant or detached. He is near, involved, and intimately working for our good and His glory.
As you begin this week, rest in the greatness and the nearness of Christ. The One who created you, sustains you, and redeemed you is worthy of your trust today.
