A Prayer for Our Nation at 250

As America celebrates 250 years of independence, Christians have an opportunity to do more than reflect on the past. Scripture calls us to pray—with gratitude for God's blessings, intercession for our leaders, faithfulness in our churches, and hope for the advance of the Gospel. On this historic Fourth of July, may we celebrate with thanksgiving while looking to the Lord for mercy and guidance in the years ahead.

Before We Celebrate a Nation, Let Us Give Thanks to God

As America marks 250 years of independence, Christians have much for which to be thankful. Yet Psalm 107 reminds us that our gratitude must not stop with national blessings or personal freedoms. Before we look around at all we have received, we must look up to the God whose steadfast love, providential care, and redeeming mercy are the source of every good gift.

The Trap of Social Media

Social media is not the serpent. The platform is not the problem. Like the forbidden fruit in Eden, it simply provides opportunity. The real battlefield is the heart. What we say, assume, amplify, or attack online reveals what we love most: self or Christ.

He Lays Down His Life for His Friends

In the wake of the tragic loss of two local sheriff’s deputies, this reflection turns to Jesus’ words in John 15:13 to consider the meaning of sacrificial love. While we grieve the evil that took these lives, we honor faithful service and are reminded that true love is most often lived out through daily, costly obedience shaped by Christ.

Our Community Mourns Together, Again

Twelve years ago, this blog began on a day our community did not want – a day marked by shock, tears, and the unthinkable loss of a child. Today, we find ourselves mourning again. Different circumstances, the same shared sorrow. Two Ozark law enforcement officers have been killed by a criminal act, leaving families shattered and a community stunned into silence.

Moments like this reveal both what we hate and what we love. We hate that violence invades ordinary days. We hate that families receive knocks on doors no one should ever hear. And yet, once again, we love our community. We see compassion in quiet conversations, courage in those who continue to serve, and prayer rising as a collective response to grief.

Tragedy has a way of shaping us. The question is not whether we will mourn – but how. As we remember, recommit, resolve, request, and rest, we choose to respond not with fear or hopelessness, but with faith rooted in Christ. We mourn together. And by God’s grace, we move forward together.

Officers Down ~ a Deadly Day in the Ozarks

Officer Down ~ A Deadly Day in the Ozarks

Today, our hearts are heavy. Deputy Gabriel Ramirez, just 30 years old, lost his life in the line of duty during what began as a routine traffic stop. Headlines like this are not abstractions. They represent real families, real sacrifice, and real grief.

Law enforcement officers step into danger so the rest of us don’t have to. They work nights, weekends, holidays. They face risk, paperwork, pressure, and unpredictability — not for prestige or wealth, but to serve.

Scripture reminds us to give “respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.” In a culture where law enforcement is often criticized and sometimes openly disrespected, we must choose gratitude, prayer, and support.

Pray for the Ramirez family.
Pray for fellow officers carrying grief while still reporting for duty.
Pray for protection, wisdom, and courage for those who put on the badge today.

May we never grow silent in our gratitude.

Whiter than Snow!

Whiter Than Snow: Though Your Sins Were as Scarlet…

On a quiet snow day, Scripture gives us a powerful picture of forgiveness. Drawing from Isaiah 1:18, Psalm 51:7, and 1 John 1:9, this article reflects on God’s invitation to sinners and the cleansing grace He provides through Jesus Christ.

Isaiah shows us God’s perspective — honest about sin, yet full of mercy. Psalm 51 reveals the humble response of a repentant heart that asks to be washed. Together, they point us to the gospel, where Christ takes the stain of our sin and gives us His righteousness.

This reflection reminds readers that forgiveness is not something we earn, manage, or deserve. It is something God does. Like fresh snow covering the ground, God’s grace cleanses completely, offering hope, rest, and a new beginning to all who come to Him.
