At the beginning of the day, there are only so many things that we are going to actually meditate on throughout the day. What are they? Likewise, at the end of this day, something will have taken the majority of your heart’s real estate. What was it? What about love?
Love Sets Us Apart
Jesus said:
34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
Few things warrant the emphasis for daily living as Jesus places on love. He sets love apart as one of the key indicators that identify us as believers in Jesus Christ.Few things warrant the emphasis for daily living as Jesus places on love. What is the standard for our love?
Jesus makes it clear. The standard for our love is His love for us. Wow!
Have you considered recently Jesus’ love for us?
Jesus loves us with a contraconditional love, meaning that He loves us in spite of what we do (against all conditions), not just unconditionally (without conditions). His love is based upon grace – unmerited favor. His love is in spite of what we “deserve.” Speaking of this love, Paul wrote, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8).Jesus loves us with a contraconditional love, meaning that He loves us in spite of what we do (against all conditions), not just unconditionally (without conditions). What does that mean for our love?
Since this is true, what does this mean for our love this week?
If we are going to love people around us like Christ loves us, this impacts everything.
The way we look at people, talk with them, and treat them.
The way we consider our own love and someone’s “right” to “deserve” it.
The way we engage those around us.
Is there something you can do this week to better demonstrate your love?
Is there someone you do not believe “deserves” your love?
Is Jesus the standard for your love?
