I could not help but think of all the people I know who have pressures in their lives from many sides as I read Psalm 62. Possibly you are one of those people today who face many pressures and find it hard to work through them with hope. You possibly have placed your trust on people or events and have been disappointed. I believe meditating on key verses of this psalm will benefit you.

Psalm 62

Read carefully these words from God:

5 My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my expectation is from Him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense;
I shall not be moved.
7 In God is my salvation and my glory;
The rock of my strength,
And my refuge, is in God.

8 Trust in Him at all times, you people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah

9 Surely men of low degree are a vapor,
Men of high degree are a lie;
If they are weighed on the scales,
They are altogether lighter than vapor.
10 Do not trust in oppression,
Nor vainly hope in robbery;
If riches increase,
Do not set your heart on them.

11 God has spoken once,
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God.
12 Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy;
For You render to each one according to his work.

Questions for Reflection and Meditation

As you read and consider the psalm,…

  • What do you notice about God?
  • More specifically, what do you notice about the character of God?
  • What belongs to God?
  • What do you learn about men?
  • Where are places, according to this psalm, that you can place your hope?
  • What are the places of false hope versus real hope? What should you trust in?
  • What is God called?
  • If God is your defense and the One in whom you trust, what does that mean for you?

Your Faith, Hope, and Trust in the LORD

After you reflect on these questions, I trust you will find incredible encouragement no matter what you are facing. Not encouragement from your own abilities, your own strength, someone else’s abilities, riches, power, or anything else; rather, I pray you will find encouragement in the character and work of God Himself. As you go about your day, lean into Him for your strength and encouragement rather than anything or anyone else.

May the God of all comfort keep you and provide light and life to you today.
