A Comforting Promise (1-Minute Mondays)

Some days we just need a promise to consider, hold, and claim. In the midst of the pressures of life, it is easy to feel alone, overwhelmed, and scared. In the perplexities of situations, the next step is not always clear. At times we find ourselves waiting to see how God’s providential plan is going to work out for us. Occasionally we find that there may be more questions than answers.

You may be in one of those situations today, right now. The pressures you face today may in fact be overwhelming to you. But take hope. God has a good word for you today – a comforting promise – that will provide you what you need to breathe, take the next step, and to persevere through the midst of today’s pressure.

God promises His presence to you.

The writer of Hebrews reminds us of a great promise that God made to His followers very early in the Old Testament. The author writes,

5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Heb 13:5)

Guard Your Heart and Behavior

We are challenged to watch both our heart and our behavior. We are not to be overcome with the desire to change our circumstance or be discontent in it. It is easy to covet what we do not have. A new situation. A different outcome. A fresh circumstance. Escape form our current pressure. But we are exhorted to be content and not respond out of covetousness.

How Is Contentment Possible?

How is it possible to be content in our current situation? You must realize what you do have even in light of what else you want. What do you have? You have God. You have the presence of God. You have the promise that no matter what you face today and no matter what else you want, you have something better! A faithful, loving, and trustworthy God. He will not leave you or forsake you!

Now go out and face whatever else is in your life today in His power.
