Are you afraid today? Do you worry? Would you say you are anxious? If you would say “Yes” to any of those questions, then you are like millions of people who suffer the effects of fear. Worry and anxiety are milder forms of fear. One friend said, “Worry/Anxiety is simply fear that has set up residence.” You may fear the future, “if people really knew you,” responsibilities, things, relationships, and the list goes on and on.

If we are not careful, fear can rob us of so much. Fear can keep you from embracing opportunities before you – “what if…” – and keep you living in your past – “Wonder what would have…” – instead of living fully in the present. The reality is this: God wants to use you for great things today which will bless you and those around you. You do not want fear to plunder that blessing away from you.

Thankfully, there is good news for you today.

Listen to Jesus’ Advice to the Disciples

Jesus dealt with fearful disciples in more than just one incidence. Listen to what Jesus said to His disciples when they were in a storm on the Sea of Galilee:

27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” (Matthew 14:22-33)

Jesus comforted the disciples with His presence and said, “Do not be afraid.”

Do Not Be Afraid

Jesus’ advice to the disciples is good for you as well. Whatever is going on, wherever you are at, however you feel, or whatever thing has your heart gripped by fear, worry, or anxiety, just know that Jesus is with you in the midst of it. You can trust Him. You do not need to fear.

As Jesus demonstrated to the disciples when He calmed the storm and enabled Peter to walk on water, He is sovereignly in control in your life as well. Again, you can trust Him. Take heart! Have courage! Jesus is with you.
