We marvel at God’s creation. God certainly did not have to provide us the beauty all around us, but He did. You have to look no further than the people all around you to see how special and creative His creation is. Each one of us differ from all the others.

Made in His Image

In the first chapter of the Bible we read that we were all made in His image. Moses put it in writing for us. He wrote:

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:26-28)

What a privilege! Different than everything else in God’s creation, He chose to make us in His image. Being in God’s image carries with it so much joy, immense responsibility, and pleasure. In the process of living each day, we interact with people who are just like us.

Things that Make You Say, Hmmm

In conversations this week I have been intrigued a few times. I did not know that there were more dogs in Seattle than children. In fact, a growing trend among many younger people and families is to choose to get an animal over having a child. I hear this and looked it up on Google (the official site to research anything). Sure enough – plus many more cities than Seattle. What does this mean?

This trajectory is just another step of many in our society toward everyone doing what is best in their own eyes and away from God’s plan and design. Having children – the awesome privilege of a husband and wife to pass on God’s image to another human being – is God’s designed plan for each couple. However, for many reasons, we as a society seemingly move further and further away from God’s plan.

On many levels, for those of us who are parents, we must teach the Bible, including God’s plan and design, creation, and image of God, to our children so that they will understand the incredible privilege we each have to be in God’s image and live for His glory.

Along the way, I expect if we would, many children – and later adults – would learn to respect each other much more.

Just the Way God Wanted Us to Be

Here is a cute video I found this week for children. You may enjoy it as well. It relates to this issue of image of God and children.
