Do you ever feel alone? Do you wish someone was with you or for you?

Loneliness is common. In one recent study, almost half of Americans reported feeling lonely. Over the years single individuals have explained how lonely the single life can be. At the same time, I have heard various married counselees say that they never understood loneliness until they got married. Of course there are those who have lost a spouse through death, divorce, or separation. When you add to that those who live far away from family, those who are deployed in the military, college life, and business travel, upwards to half of America feels lonely.

For those who have a relationship with God, God is with you. You are never alone.

God is with you.

David reflects on God’s presence in Psalm 139:

7 Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,”
Even the night shall be light about me;
12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
(Psalm 139:7-12)

David states that no matter where he goes, God is there and is with him. No matter how high (the heavens), how low (hell), to the east (wings of the morning), or to the west (the sea), David recognized you cannot escape God’s presence. In fact, the darkest spots for us are as standing in the noon sun.

He continues:

17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;
When I awake, I am still with You. (Psalm 139:17-18)

God thinks about you and is with you.

Wherever you are today, no matter how lonely you feel, rejoice in the reality that God is with you and is thinking of you. God is present. He is with you. Thankfully, no matter how sinful you are or have been, you cannot hide from God. Friends, this is great news! Be intentional to be aware of and enjoy His presence today.
