If you are in near Missouri or like the AFC, today my guess is you are happy about the result of the Super Bowl. What a crazy game – a grinder in all reality. Andy Reid gets his first ring. Kansas City earns its second Super Bowl – the first in 50 years. The San Francisco 49ers played exceptionally well in a hard-fought loss. Every thing about the night – if you are a Kansas City fan – turned out great.
Now it is Monday and I am sure you are grateful for the results.
In reality though, even though Chief Kingdom got their win, God’s Kingdom warrants even greater reasons to be happy today. As I contemplated this morning for what it is I am grateful, my mind thought briefly about the Super Bowl and then went a step further. What is even greater today? God’s Kingdom. Our relationship with Christ. The presence of God.
The Nearness of My God Is My Good
As a Christian, we have so much for which we can be grateful. As I reflect on it this morning after the Super Bowl, one passage comes to my mind in terms of what I can be grateful for as a Christian today.
But as for me, the nearness of God for me is good,
I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter,
as I declare all the things you have done. (Psalm 73:28)
Asaph, the choir director of Israel, looks at everything in his life and comes up with this final analysis.
The nearness of my God is my good!
Implications for Your Day and Week
As great as it is to see the Chiefs win, the reality is, God’s presence today is so much better. No matter where you are, no matter what is going on in your life today, God is with you. This is great news!
Today, if you are a Kansas City fan, today is better than most. However, the reality that God is near makes a good day even greater.
And, when it is a bad day, the nearness of God helps us get through that day as well.
Kansas City Chief fans and friends, enjoy your day! Just do not forget that what makes today truly Super isn’t winning the Super Bowl, it is to enjoy the nearness of your God.
Great post Kevin!!!
Yes it was a “grinder” a sexual pornographic half time exhibition I am shocked you did not speak out against. Silence condones.
Why no outrage about the 1/2 time show?
I’m in the Dominican Republic and did not see the game live. I followed the game online in real time. I only saw lengthy play-by-play highlights after the game was over. I have no information regarding the half-time show, although several have asked about it.
