A new day to begin a new week in a new month. How did June get here so quickly? At least around our house and church, COVID-19 didn’t slow anything down. The days march on or run together or something.
Thankfully, even though the days seem to be moving quickly, what is still true today is that God’s grace is new and He is faithful. As the day dawned and things began moving, one verse seemed to help get the day moving the right direction.
God’s Grace Is New Every Morning
Jeremiah – the weeping prophet – explained God’s grace well when he connected it to God’s character. Consider his words:
22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness. (Lam 3:22-23)
God’s Is Faithful
This morning, whatever you face, whatever you have done, or whatever you feel, God’s grace is up to your challenge.
His mercy is brand new. You wake up on full. You do not have to wonder whether or not God is faithful to you today. He is.
One of the greatest truths about God’s character is His faithfulness to His followers. He pursues us. He never fails. In the New Testament, James describes God as never changing, “…with Whom is no variation or shadow of turning.”
This is good news today. The past week has been rough. Last Monday we were reminded of our weakness and failure. Since then, peaceful protesters have highlighted the depth and significance of the trouble. Riots have also highlighted the depth of our depravity.
We are strugglers and sinners. We are in need of God’s grace and mercy.
Great is His faithfulness! His mercies are new every morning.
Now that is some good news to begin our week.
