Have either of these two things ever happened to you before?

First, you are somewhere to do a job, but no one tells you what that job is or how to do it.

Second, although you know what you are supposed to do, you are not given the tools or opportunity to do it.

I’ve been in both of these situations in the past and both can really frustrate or even discourage someone, or both.

Thankfully, as it comes to following Christ today, neither of these two things are true. In fact, the exact opposite is true. Let me explain.

Jesus Was Clear Regarding What We Are To Do

Thankfully, Jesus made it very clear to His followers what they were supposed to do. Yes, there’s a job to do, but thankfully, Jesus told us all about it. Jesus said:

4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:4-8)

Jesus is very clear and tells us everything we need to know in order to be successful.

Live and Share

Let me answer the questions above:

  • What is the job? How are we to do it? To be witnesses. A witness shares what he or she saw, heard, or did. We are to be witnesses of the message and effect of the Gospel on us as individuals.
  • What are the tools to be witnesses? What are the opportunities to be a witness? Each one of us has been given the power through the Holy Spirit to be witnesses to the ends of the earth. We have the power to both share and live the Gospel consistently, plus the opportunity to do so wherever we are to the ends of the earth.

As you begin your day and your week, as a follower of Christ, strive to share and live the Gospel since you have the power and the opportunities every where you go.
