Last night in a conversation with my sweet nine-year-old son, I asked him what we were going to celebrate today. I said to him, “Maybe tomorrow is National Pancake Appreciation Day and we can get up in the morning and celebrate that!” Of course I was just kidding with him because I knew that we just had National Pancake Day on September 26th of this year (don’t we all know that? LOL).

His response floored me. He said,

Dad, tomorrow is Honor-the-Lord-in-Everything-You-Do Day. Because isn’t every day Honor-the-Lord-in-Everything-You-Do Day?

Incredible. My response, “Yes, you are correct. And we can celebrate that.”

Honor-the-Lord-in-Everything-You-Do Day

How and why would my nine-year-old come up with such a thing as we laid on the couch at the end of a long day?

Maybe because he has been taught this verse from the Apostle Paul:

31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Then again, maybe it was this verse:

9 Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. (2 Corinthians 5:9)

Or then again, maybe it was this verse:

27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, (Phil 1:27)

Or it could be this one:

1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, (Ephesians 4:1)

Then again, it could be any host of other verses as well!

What is the point?

God used my son in a very casual moment where we were just having fun together to remind me of a very important point. No matter what else is going on in my day today – or in my week, I am responsible to live for the honor of the Lord. I am to be Christlike (Eph 5:1-2).

In disappointments – which sometimes are very many? Yes

Around those who may not treat me nicely? Yes

In the midst of pressure? Yes

When the political world is upside down? Yes

When I have a health problem? Yes

What about if someone has disobedient children? Then too

All the time!

Friend, it may not be National Pancake Appreciation Day, but it is something much better!

Today and this week, may we live and celebrate “Honor-the-Lord-in-Everything-You-Do Day!”
