One year after the pandemic hit the world, we once again face celebrating Easter under a pandemic. Life continues to change, adjust, and readjust. As it does, don’t let the coronavirus rob your Easter.

Some people continue to face limited capacity and mask orders. Thankfully, the numbers continue to remain low across the United States. Alongside both the natural immunity of those who have had it and the vaccinated immunity of millions, things begin to look up. Yet, none of us want to risk the health of those who are most vulnerable.

Friends, whether you can get out or not, let’s intentionally help lead ourselves and our families to prepare and celebrate Resurrection Sunday.

Follow Jesus’ Life over His Final Days

To help prepare you to celebrate Resurrection Sunday, read together over the next couple of days about the Resurrection. If you are single or live alone, then ask a friend to read along with you. As you read, ask each other questions, consider what Jesus is doing, and try to capture the thoughts of the disciples.

Here are a couple of options.

The Gospel of Matthew

Thursday: Jesus celebrated the Passover and is the final Passover lamb (Matthew 26:20-46).
Friday: Jesus is the crucified Savior (Matthew 26:47-27:50).
Saturday: Sunday’s coming! (Matthew 27:51-66)
Sunday: Jesus lives!! (Matthew 28)

The Gospel of Mark

Thursday: Jesus and His disciples on the day of His arrest (Mark 14:1-72).
Friday: Jesus is the crucified Savior (Mark 15:1-47).
Saturday: Jesus is in the grave (cf., Matthew 27:62-66).
Sunday: Jesus lives!! (Mark 16:1-8)

The Gospel of Luke

Thursday: Jesus in the Garden, His arrest, and Peter’s denial (Luke 22:39-65)
Friday: Jesus is the crucified Savior (Luke 23:1-49)
Saturday: Jesus was buried before the beginning of the Sabbath (Luke 23:50-56)
Sunday: Jesus lives!! (Luke 24:1-27)

The Gospel of John:

Thursday: Jesus is betrayed and denied (John 18)
Friday: Jesus is the crucified Savior (John 19:1-37)
Saturday: Sunday’s coming! (John 19:38-42)
Sunday: Jesus lives!! (John 20)

Plan and Do Something

With much of life still in an upheaval, let’s be intentional together. Plan activities with your family, times of reading, discussion, and meditation over the next couple of days in preparation for Resurrection Sunday.

If you have a Good Friday service at your church, plan to attend either virtually or in-person.

Make plans now to either attend virtually or in-person this Sunday at your church.

If you are participating virtually, then seek to put in some extra effort to block other distractions out while you participate with those who are in-person at the services. If you are alone, invite a friend to watch alongside you on the phone. Similar to watching a movie together, listen and sing together as the service plays. Be sure to share prayer requests with each other and pray for each other.

Don’t Let the Coronavirus Rob Your Easter

More than every we need a reminder of the love, sacrificial death, glorious resurrection, and victorious ascension of Jesus Christ. As the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53), He died for us. As those who strive to live and love like Him (Eph 5:1-2), this time may do us well. We will be better for it.

Especially you men – let’s do this and lead our families well!

Whoever you are, make plans and follow through with your Resurrection celebration this weekend.

If you are local to our area, join us at Sonrise this Friday, April 2nd for Good Friday service at 6:30 PM and on Easter at 10:00 AM. Both are online as well.
