Do Right! Great advice to start our week off in the right direction.

Recently while backing up a phone, I ran across a conversation between some long-time friends. One of them asked about a song we used to sing at a youth conference when we were teens. Our friend, the late Ed Snider, taught us this song and sang it at the conference. For a long time, my brother and I thought he was the composer; however, we later learned that Frank Garlock was the composer.

Consider these words:

Do Right by Frank Garlock

From the very start have purpose in your heart,
To do what’s right and never question why.
Never count the cost though everything seems lost;
The price for doing right is sometimes high.

Chorus:

Do right ’til the stars fall,
Do right ’til the last call.
Do right when there’s no one else to stand by you!
Do right when you’re all alone,
Do right though it’s never known.
Do right since you love the Lord –
Do right, do right!

Right is always right, and wrong is always wrong,
and we must learn to separate the two!
If you love the right,
The lord will give you light,
To seek the right in everything you do.

Chorus:

Do right ’til the stars fall,
Do right ’til the last call.
Do right when there’s no one else to stand by you!
Do right when you’re all alone,
Do right though it’s never known.
Do right since you love the Lord –
Do right, do right! [1]

A Commitment toward Obedience

As I was reminded this weekend of this song, what an incredible commitment to make at the beginning of the week to just simply do right.

The psalmist wrote:

1 How blessed are those whose actions are blameless,
who obey the law of the Lord.
How blessed are those who observe his rules,
and seek him with all their heart,
who, moreover, do no wrong,
but follow in his footsteps. (Psalm 119:1-3)

Jesus, just hours before He died on the cross, said, “If you love me, you will obey my commandments” (John 14:15).

Since we love our dear Savior and friend, Jesus Christ, we strive to Do Right!

May we strive today and this week to simply do what is right.
