Tomorrow marks one year since the tragic death of my dear friend Beth Adams. As I contemplate her story, I am pausing to be grateful for Heaven.
One year ago tomorrow, Beth Adams enjoyed a perfect day. She served others with her morning, supported a grandchildren with her afternoon, enjoyed supper with her husband, and was headed to go serve at her church when it happened. A twenty-year-old man running from the police blew through a stop sign in a box truck and crashed into my friend’s small SUV. She died immediately. As you can imagine, all of us were devastated.
So sudden. Alive here one moment. Alive with God in the next.
Beth is not the only one. You, no doubt like me, think of others as well.
Pausing to be Grateful for Heaven
This morning I pause from the busyness of the day to just thank God for the promise of life after death and God’s provision of Heaven. The Bible says:
1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also (John 14:1-3).
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16-17)
8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:8)
2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. (Rev 21:2-4)
This morning we read these verses in gratitude for what God has provided for us.
Heaven’s Joy
We rejoice in the comfort of Heaven. My friends who have gone there first enjoy what of which we can only dream.
As you get started on this day and this new week, will you take a moment to contemplate, be grateful for, and rejoice in God’s provision of Heaven?
