Welcome to 2022!

What’s ahead? Will the craziness of 2020 and 2021 continue? What will happen? How will we respond? What is next?

None of us know the answers to these important questions. No doubt we all have dreams, desires, and hoped-for outcomes. As those things either come due or not, our faith will be stretched as we seek to trust God in the midst of life-lived. At the precipice of a dawning year, we wonder what will happen. Both experience and the Bible tells us though these two things. One, God will be faithful to work His plan. And, two, there will be times we do not get what we want. Therefore, we hope for God’s will to be done in our lives and the lives of those around us even in our disappointments.

New Year’s Prayer 2022

Dear God,

We pause and recognize You at the beginning of this dawning year. Although it is a new day on our calendar, as well as a new year, we recognize that this day is like all others to You. You work out Your plan as we continue down the path toward eternity while demonstrating Your love toward us in Your presence with us. We begin with gratitude.

Thank you for your covenant faithfulness. Your love and mercy which extend out to us through your faithfulness never grow old. We confess that we do not deserve Your love. Sadly, as much as we try, we do not grasp the extent of our own inability to deserve any good thing from You. Yet, You choose to love us, chose to send Your Son to die for us, and have made a plan for us in the future. Thank You.

We remember Jesus Christ and our forgiveness, redemption, brotherhood, and imputed righteousness. Jesus so graciously came, lived, died sacrificially, and now lives as the victor over the grave, as the true champion over death. We strive in 2022 to become more like You, Jesus. Humbly, we confess our inability to transform to Your likeness on our own, and rejoice in Your provision to help us change. We are so grateful to have in You everything we need for life and godliness this year.

We confess our own weaknesses. What can we do other than depend upon You? We do not have and inherent goodness on our own. Our wisdom leads us toward sin and the grave. Our wisdom encourages us to depend more upon self and demanding our way rather than submitting to Your way and depending upon You. We get so easily to the end of our rope, per se. Yet, You remain faithful and patient and trustworthy despite us.

Please grant us the spiritual eyes to see all that You provide to us through Christ. Help us acknowledge the work of the Holy Spirit in us. Please grant us greater wisdom as we face the uncertainties of life around us. Political, educational, vocational, relational, and personal pressures face us. Most of these things we have very little control over except for our response. Yet we often want so much more. Demand so much more. And, we find ourselves struggling over and over.

God, would you please use us to accomplish Your will this year? Will you grant us the ability to see our choices for what they are. We desire to say no to sin and yes to holiness. As we get disappointed, we long to live faithfully. Whenever we do not understand you, please grant us the strength to do what is right, trust You, and obey You.

We love you and desire to honor You will in this new year!

Thank You for giving us both the opportunity and ability to do as you’ve asked.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
