As We Worship Today, Join with the Ukrainians in These 3 Ways
All over the world today we meet to worship. At least in the United States, we do so as free people, freely assembling ourselves together, totally void of any fear whatsoever. We meet in open, not fearful of bombs or anything else. As we worship today, we can join with the Ukrainians in these 3 ways.
Sing Loud with Your Brothers and Sisters
Whatever songs you sing in worship today, sing loud. No, they can’t hear you in Ukraine; however, in your heart you can join in the song of thousands in Ukraine. They meet in homes, bomb shelters, subways, and basements with invaders at their doorsteps. They have stopped to worship God together. Their songs unite their hearts even in the darkness waiting for the morning.
I waited patiently for the Lord;
And He inclined to me,
And heard my cry.
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,
Out of the miry clay,
And set my feet upon a rock,
And established my steps.
He has put a new song in my mouth—
Praise to our God;
Many will see it and fear,
And will trust in the Lord. (Psalm 40:1-3)
Pray for and with Your Brothers and Sisters
All across Ukraine they also pray together today. You can join them at the throne of God. We can meet together there. Join them in prayer. One missionary asked for these prayer requests:
- For God’s supernatural protection over believers and for God to be glorified in crushing the pride and plans of evil men.
- For many who are fearful and confused to find the only true hope in Christ in these days.
- For strength and wisdom on how best to serve people, so that the church would shine brightly in this time.
Join with the psalmist in this prayer:
Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me;
O Lord, make haste to help me!
Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion
Who seek to destroy my life;
Let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor
Who wish me evil.
Let them be confounded because of their shame,
Who say to me, “Aha, aha!” (Psalm 40:13-15)
Join Your Brothers and Sisters in Trusting God
We stop today to trust God’s sovereignty, providence, and plan. We recognize the plan of God continues to move toward the return of Christ. These days and events remind us of God’s return. There will be wars and rumors of wars (Matt 24:6). Perilous times will come (2 Tim 3:1). Yet, we hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. As this psalmist so aptly puts it:
Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O Lord;
Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.
For innumerable evils have surrounded me;
My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up;
They are more than the hairs of my head;
Therefore my heart fails me. (Psalm 40:11-12)
Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
Let such as love Your salvation say continually,
“The Lord be magnified!”
But I am poor and needy;
Yet the Lord thinks upon me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
Do not delay, O my God. (Psalm 40:16-17)
