New Week, New Choices

Monday is here and, with it, we face new choices. As we begin this new week, seeking to honor the Lord in everything we do, we must choose between one of two paths to take. We shake the dust off our shoes from last week, and eagerly press into the challenges of a new week.

Two Paths

On this Monday, notice how Solomon presented his son with the significance of these two choices. Solomon wrote:

“But the path of the righteous is like the bright morning light, growing brighter and brighter until full day. The way of the wicked is like gloomy darkness; they do not know what causes them to stumble.” (Proverbs‬ ‭4:18-19‬)

Notice, he compares two different paths. The path of the righteous is like the sun coming up in the morning. As the sun climbs, everything gets brighter. For the righteous, the path is easy to discern as you stick with the word of God since it provides a flight to you.

On the contrary, the wicked make their path darker and darker. As the wicked commit themselves to the other path, the light of the word of God grows dimmer and dimmer. Similar to what the apostle John wrote in 1 John, if you are committed to wickedness, you do not dwell in the light.

Two Paths, Two Outcomes

If you choose to walk in righteousness or “the light,” The outcome is a brighter and brighter path. In other words, life becomes easier to navigate because you can see better. Wisdom comes simpler and easier as well. Why? Because your path is lit by the word of God (Psalm 119). Remember the psalmist’s quote, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light into my path.” The word of God in the child of God does not alleviate all pressures; however, the Bible provides you the necessary light in order to maneuver down the path of life in a way that honors Jesus Christ.

Or, you can take the path that is filled with darkness. In this path, the pressures can only increase because you double down on the problems. Not only do you have the difficulty of seeing since you are away from the light, but you also struggle with additional complications as you try to maneuver through those circumstances. Consider this simple illustration: if you are trying to carefully work through some pressures it is difficult; but, much more difficult when you would add dense fog to that same path.

What is it going to be?

Which will you choose today? Are you going to choose the path that leads toward greater light and righteousness or are you going to choose the path that leads you into further darkness and complications? May God help us this week to choose the righteous path.
