A Commitment to Godly Communication
Imagine today sitting in a living room as an adult and sitting in an easy chair next to the fireplace is an aged gentleman – a man of whom is said there is none wiser. In his day he had done it all. He studied all facets of life, nature, science, human behavior. Today we get to “pick his brain.” Read carefully because his words are the very words of God who designed relationships.
To Grandpa Solomon, we ask, “Could you give me some advice about communication? I don’t seem to be doing too well at times.”
Here are nine pieces of advice to consider today. I provide them without commentary since this is #OneMinuteMondays and space is limited. :)
- Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (Proverbs 18:21)
- A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. (Proverbs 15:1)
- A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. (Proverbs 15:4)
- There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health. (Proverbs 12:18)
- Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. (Proverbs 16:24)
- A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart. (Proverbs 18:2 )
- He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him. (Proverbs 18:13)
- The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil. (Proverbs 15:28)
- A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is! (Proverbs 15:23)
On this new day and week, listen well to our Grandpa Solomon and seek to apply his incredible advice to the conversations ahead. In the process, may God receive the glory.
