Peace at Christmas

On the night that Jesus was born in a manger in Bethlehem, the angels came to the shepherds to tell them about Jesus’ birth. They described to them what had happened and how excited it was. They explained to the world about true peace at Christmas. Read their special birth announcement:

Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. (Luke 2:10-12)

Did you catch the excitement and significance?

I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.

They announced that evening great news of even greater joy for all people. But, they were not finished. The sky filled with angels and they said:

Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men! (Luke 2:14)

This new Savior, who is Christ the Lord, brought peace to the earth.

What Peace can you receive at Christmas?

What kind of peace can you experience this Christmas? Let me suggest two.

First, you can experience eternal peace with God. Because Jesus came and died on the cross as a payment for every person’s sins, He offers true peace to every person. Peace with God.

Second, you can experience relational peace with your neighbors. In Christ, we can enjoy people with others as well. Let me share some verses that explain it all.

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. (Ephesians 2:14-18)

Jesus is our peace. When we develop a relationship with Him, we enjoy peace with God and with all those who are also in Christ. True peace. As we look forward to celebrating Christmas this season, this is the true sense of peace we celebrate.
