New Year, _______ You?

On this observed New Years holiday, we turn our attention to the NEW of Happy New Years! This is the time of year where everything seems new, fresh, and hope-filled for many. A new year. With it comes new opportunities, a fresh set of twelve months, an empty canvas of days to write the new year’s story. Often people say, “New Year, New You” – however, my question today for you is, “New Year, _______ You?” How would fill in the blank for this new year? Let me suggest a few options.

New Year, Disciplined You

One of the best traits to develop is discipline. This new year, take a moment to pick one area to begin to practice discipline. If you are already a disciplined person, then pick an area to strive for better discipline. It could be anything. Here are a few ideas:

  • Disciplined to put your phone down or turn if off before a meal
  • Disciplined to read your Bible for 10-15 minutes each morning before scrolling the internet
  • Disciplined to read any book 10 pages per day (you’ll read 12 300-page books per year)
  • Disciplined to walk at least 6,000 steps per day

All of these are simple disciplines. There are hundreds more. Just pick one and work on begin better at it. The goal is consistency.

New Year, Consistent You

This is a good one as well. You could also say, New Year, Faithful You.

Consistency and faithfulness go hand-in-hand. Here, you can work toward being more consistent or faithful in a particular area. You may be asking, “How is this different than being more diligent?” Great question! It really is hardly any different. My goal was to offer you two more ways of saying the same thing.

New Year, Disciplined You
New Year, Consistent You
New Year, Faithful You

As you pick one or two spots to determine where you can be more consistent, faithful, or disciplined, this is a great opportunity to consider your walk with the Lord as well. So, maybe ask these two questions:

  1. What is a very practical area where I can be more disciplined, consistent, or faithful? My motivation here is to look for an area that helps you as a person. The more diligent, consistent, and faithful person you are, the better you will be around family, your church family, your friends, and others.
  2. What is a practical area spiritually where I can be more disciplined, consistent, or faithful? My motivation here is to look for an area that helps you in your spiritual maturity.

One question relates to loving God – Question 2

One question relates to loving others – Question 1

Trust you have a great time thinking through each of these questions.

Happy New Year and thanks for sharing the first #OneMinuteMondays with me for 2023.
