God’s Strength in Seasons of Change

This week, Ozark, Springfield, and Nixa prepare to celebrate high school graduations, marking a bold step for young people into new seasons. Families also face tender moments, bidding farewell to loved ones nearing eternity. Just yesterday, Mother’s Day honored the enduring love of mothers. Globally, Pope Leo XIV, newly elected, calls for peace, India and Pakistan announce a fragile ceasefire, Ukraine endures the weight of ongoing war, and Washington, D.C., hums with political unrest. A hostage gets released from those taken in October 7, 2023. A preliminary trade deal is announced between the US and China sending stocks soaring. Amid such transitions, Scripture anchors us. These events stress the necessity of every Christian to depend upon God’s strength in seasons of change.

Consider what Isaiah declared:

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (Isa 40:31).

God’s strength sustains us when change can feel very overwhelming. Whether as a graduate you face a new chapter filled with uncertainty, you grieve a loss, or seek to navigate a world in flux, the Lord equips you to rise above your pressures and honor Him in your response. His promise is not an escape from change; rather, it is empowerment through it.

Today, in the midst of all the change, reflect on God’s faithfulness. Take a moment to recall when God carried you through a time of uncertainty – perhaps as similar to what I mentioned above possibly a trial, a loss, or a necessary bold step forward. That same God holds you today. No matter what the past circumstance  – the graduate stepping into the unknown, the family mourning, the believer praying for peace – all find strength in the Lord who never changes. Rejoice in the truth found in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” His constancy is your foundation. He is the Rock on which we can rest, find shelter, and get our footing for the days ahead.

Possibly today, take one minute to write down a past instance of God’s faithfulness. Let this memory of what God has done in the past to fuel courage for today’s challenges, whether personal or global. Trust the Lord to renew your strength, thus enabling you to soar above life’s shifting seasons with hope.
