Praise the Lord for Peace and Freed Hostages
Today, we pause in awe and gratitude as the Lord moves in mighty ways. The headlines declare what our hearts have long prayed for: peace dawns in Gaza, and the remaining twenty living hostages, held captive in Gaza for over two years, walk free. Praise God for His incredible mercy.
Consider the weight of that dark day, October 7, 2023. Terrorists from Hamas stormed across the border, slaying twelve hundred souls and seizing two hundred fifty-one precious lives – men, women, children, the elderly. Families were shattered; communities torn asunder. For 731 days, the world watched in anguish as these innocents endured tunnels of terror, isolation, and unimaginable hardship. Fathers separated from daughters, husbands from wives, while all of them crying out in the shadows.
Yet, behold the faithfulness of our God. Through tireless diplomacy, led by President Donald Trump and mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and beyond, a ceasefire has taken hold. Israeli forces have withdrawn to secure lines, aid begins to flow into Gaza, and the borders have reopened. Hamas released these twenty men – the totality of whom remain alive – and have handed them over to the Red Cross. Now they are reuniting with tearful embraces from loved ones. Buses now roll through cheering streets in Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square, where vigils have burned like eternal flames over the past 700+ days. In Ramallah, in addition, Palestinian prisoners, numbering nearly 2,000, are freed, a bittersweet exchange for this new peace.
This is not merely a political accord; it is an answer to prayer – a providential intervention. The psalmist declares in Psalm 126:5-6: “Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
Friends, may this stir our spirit. In a world rife with rage and retribution, God orchestrates peace where none seemed possible. He thwarts the plans of the wicked, as Proverbs 16:9 affirms: “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” Trump declares it a “historic dawn”; we declare it heavenly grace. Yet, many questions still linger: bodies of the fallen must return, governance of Gaza undecided, and true resolution demands justice for all victims – close to 67,000 Palestinian lives lost, thousands of Israelis as well.
However, today we rejoice. Praise God for peace that halts the horror and for hostages restored to home. Let us pray without ceasing that this ceasefire blooms into enduring blessings for all affected by this. May God be praised for what He has done through very imperfect people, yet we also give praise to God for those imperfect people while thanking them for their efforts.
Today we rejoice. Praise God for peace that halts the horror and for hostages restored to home. #OneMinuteMondays Share on X
