What is your purpose this week?

What is most important to you?

If you look at what Microsoft Edge is selling on their front page, it seems to fit what was true in the prophet Jeremiah’s day as well. God gave this message to Jeremiah regarding what is important in life.

“Thus says the Lord:
‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;'” (Jeremiah 9:23)

God identifies three areas of life that His followers should recognize as false temptations or potential threats: Wisdom – Power – Money. All three come with misleading promises and false security. They promise everything from happiness to contentment to peace.

Although all three of these (Wisdom – Power – Money) are great blessings from God that can be used to benefit many, none of them should motivate us in life. As gifts from God, they are to be enjoyed and employed for the maximum gain of others. As idols for which to live, they do not satisfy nor do they serve others well.

So what should we live for this week? God continues…

“‘But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,’ says the Lord” (Jeremiah 9:24).

This week (starting today, right now) make knowing and understanding God the goal of living. As you learn God and understand His ways, you will find it much easier to use your wisdom, power, and money in ways that benefit both you and others.

When God is at the forefront of your life, wisdom, power, and money take their rightful place. If you are going to focus on or glory in something this week, make it your relationship with Jesus Christ (1 Cor 1:30-31; 2 Cor 10:17).
