As a Christ-honoring person, no doubt at times you will offend someone. Your offences may not be intentional, but they will come. Often miscommunication encourages misunderstanding, usually at the worldview level.

May I suggest a few hot button spots? Go to the office and get in a deep conversation regarding abortion, gender, homosexuality, physician assisted euthanasia, politics, or a host of other issues.

In these and other areas, as a disciple of Christ, most likely your worldview and that of some of your colleagues will differ greatly. Because of that, you may face criticism, ridicule, and various consequences.

This is when a clear conscience helps you.

A Clear Conscience Is Imperative.

Peter addresses instances such as these when Christians were undergoing persecution for doing what was right. He writes:

14 But in fact, if you happen to suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. But do not be terrified of them or be shaken . 15 But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess. 16 Yet do it with courtesy and respect, keeping a good conscience, so that those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame when they accuse you. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if God wills it, than for doing evil.
(1 Peter 3:14‭-‬17

Notice two key issues from this text. First, the way you interact with those who disagree must be with courtesy and respect. Second, a clear conscience will follow a godly lifestyle. Therefore, this leaves the detractor with nothing to substantially criticize.

How Does a Clear Conscience Help You?

A clear conscience, with a godly life that backs it up, provides you the opportunity to share the hope that is within you, without the shame of your personal lifestyle contradicting your message. This, in turn, encourages a humble boldness with the gospel.

Today, go live and share the hope that is within you.
