This is the time of year when many students are going away to summer camp with various church groups. As they go, it is important that they are encouraged and supported by our prayers. The goal of this blog it to help you know how to pray for children and teens at summer camp. Below I provide a list of prayer request for you that you can pray concerning your child or children you know who are off at youth camp.

How to Pray for Children and Teens at Summer Camp – Prayer Requests

Spiritual Aspects

  • Pray that your child will have an open heart to hear God’s word spoken and to receive it as truth
  • Pray that your child will take the opportunity to consider his or her own heart seriously
  • Pray that your child will have the courage to make bold decisions that could be life-changing
  • Pray that your child has the wisdom to respond motivated by God’s Word through the truth preached rather than just by emotion
  • Pray that the counselors with your child have the discernment to know how to help each child consider next steps in spiritual growth
  • Pray for the camp speaker to clearly communicate truth in a practical way that impacts the heart of the child
  • Pray that the camp speaker will not be distracted by his or her own personal pressures, life, and general suffering
  • Pray that the camp musicians will lead worship that exalts Christ as they walk in the Spirit
  • Pray that in God’s Providence distractions are at a very minimum

Relational Aspects

  • Pray that your child will be a good, spiritually wise friend to those around him or her
  • Pray that your child will have discernment in those that he or she hangs around throughout the camp experience
  • Pray that your child emotionally handles the pressures of community life when he or she is both excited and exhausted
  • Pray that your child will not get caught up in the potential drama of others around him or her
  • Pray that your child will have wisdom to know how to best serve those around him or her
  • Pray that the camp experience will build and strengthen greater relationships within your church group and for your child
  • Pray that the campers and your child will all have the wisdom and love to minimize sarcasm, gossip, and other means of bullying
  • Pray that when sin does take place either to or around your camper that he or she will deal with it in a God-honoring way
  • Pray that your child will be sensitive to the preferences of others
  • Pray that when others are not sensitive to the preferences of your child that he or she will deal with it in a God-honoring way

Physical Aspects

  • Pray for your child and all the campers to experience physical safety as they travel, play games, and participate in the camp
  • Pray that your child will get good rest even in the midst of much excitement and physical exhaustion
  • Pray that your child will take advantage of the meals provided and that the meals would nourish his or her body to enable maximum participation, especially in hearing the Word of God spoken
