As parents, grandparents, concerned neighbors for the youth in our community, members of the church, and anyone in education, this affects us all. We need to be aware of what is happening and share this information widely with our middle schoolers, high schoolers, and young adults.
Without disclosing any personal information, my conversations with a local medical doctor that works in a hospital emergency room alarms me. As these articles point out, there are typically very healthy young adults coming into hospitals and ending up in ICU on breathing machines fighting for their lives. We cannot assume that our own children and those we know around us are attuned to this significant news.
Cases of Vaping-Related Lung Illness Surge, Health Officials Say
“Indiana announced a third death linked to the illness on Friday, Minnesota a fourth and California a fifth. State and federal health officials are working urgently to understand the causes. … Medical experts and federal health officials on Friday warned the public about the dangers of vaping and discouraged using the devices as the number of people with a severe lung illness linked to vaping more than doubled to 450 possible cases in 33 states and the number of deaths rose to five.” (Read More)
Dozens of US teens hospitalized with lung disease after vaping

Vaping Damages Blood Vessels After Just One Use, New Study Says
“The study found that the heat created when e-cigarettes turn liquid into vapor stirs the compounds into toxic particles, which damage blood vessels. To perform the study, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine took an MRI scan of 31 healthy non-smokers before and after vaping nicotine-free e-cigarettes.” (Read More)
