Are you ever concerned that you are praying the wrong thing? Do you wonder if God hears and cares about what you pray? Would you like to pray a prayer that will help get your new day started on the right track?

Great news! King David’s prayer in Psalm 19 helps start your new day on the right track. In fact, these verses are some of my favorites.

David’s Prayer to Help Get Your Day Started

David’s prayer:

12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. 13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord , my strength and my Redeemer.
(Psalms 19:12‭-‬14)

Why Is This Prayer So Helpful?

This prayer gets you started on the right track for three reasons:

First, in these verses David responds to two specific areas of thinking. He begins by considering God’s glory, power, and divine attributes as identified by the heavens (sun, moon, stars, sky, universe)(PS 19:1-6). He then rejoices in the benefits of the Word of God for daily living (converts the soul, makes wise the simple, rejoices the heart, enlightens the eyes, produces the fear of the Lord, and helps keep us on the right track)(PS 19:7-9).

Second, he humbly asks God to forgive his sins and protect him from further sin. He demonstrates sensitivity to God’s glory in every moment living by thinking about his own sin.

Third, he makes a very practical request regarding his heart, mind, and speech. This is my personal favorite because it deals with the heart and mouth. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord , my strength and my Redeemer.”

As you begin this new day and week, begin it with a strong prayer to get your day on the right track.
