Truth.

Honesty.

Integrity.

Principle.

Forthrightness.

Sincerity.

Trustworthiness.

Faithfulness.

Accuracy.

Do these words mean anything? For sure they do in the Bible. They also do in the life of the Christian.

Fascinatingly enough, they also should in every day life in every aspect of living.

Is it always easy to tell the truth? Am I perfect throughout my life? Is this a significant area where we must double-down our efforts?

Public Record and Events

Over the past several weeks and especially days, I have listened to or read about House Managers and the President’s Defense Team as they have said many things. Often, the things they say are opposites with each other. Then others go to the microphones outside the Senate chambers or on network television and tell about others who lie, mislead, and hide information. This whole process reminds me why as Christians we should be people of truth.

I have never been in the place of any of the House managers or the President’s Defense Team. Rather, I humbly point out what is obvious. I am not pointing to any one individual or person, nor am I suggesting any one person to be guilty.

The Biblical Record

The Bible commands for us to “Speak the truth in love” (Eph 4:15).
Jesus said, “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one” (Matt 5:37).

Jesus’ half-brother writes, “But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment” (James 5:12).

Paul writes for all Christians, “Therefore, putting away lying, ‘Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,’ for we are members of one another” (Eph 4:25).

The Bible makes it clear – be honest always.

We Are Sad But Must Do Our Part

Friends, as we watch this and in our hearts we know that both sides cannot be truth-filled. Both sides cannot be right. I for one am so glad I am not a Senator. They like us cannot threaten to cut anyone in half as Solomon to determine the truth. We just know that one or both parties tell lies.

But for us, we must not. As followers of Christ, we must do our part to tell the truth. In Christ, truth does matter.

We are responsible to speak and live the truth with total integrity, faithfulness, and forthrightness.

Are any of us perfect? No

Is there better work any of us could do? I’m sure there is.

How do we move forward in our own lives? With careful self-counsel and accountability

I’m grateful for those who have helped me in the past, have asked questions to prod my own heart, and continue to walk with me. I recognize the necessity of humbly walking every day in the Spirit as it related to all matters of truth. These past two weeks have been helpful for me and are a reminder of the necessity of seeking to walk everyday in truth as we walk in Christ.
